As FRIENDS visibility in the region has increased, our organization also has begun to realize that our future almost assuredly will be more long-term than our founders originally believed. The demand for existing services continues to rise dramatically, and it's likely FRIENDS will be called upon to, at the very least, consider incorporating new programs into our list of offerings as the year's progress.
Looking ahead, FRIENDS continues to focus on how best to serve the communities in which we live and work. FRIENDS has grown substantially and sharpened its response to shifts in public understanding of the virus, to funding opportunities, and above all, to the evolving needs of our clients. And to think it began with a handful of volunteers educating and agitating on behalf of those living with or at risk for HIV.
HIV continues to be a public health concern in our state, across our nation, and around the world. Inform yourself about how HIV is transmitted, and how discrimination persists against those with HIV and those at highest risk for infection. You can make a difference by being an informed and compassionate advocate on behalf of people with HIV when you speak with your friends and neighbors or the community at large.
